Martin was a highly respected man both publicly and within the East of England Ambulance Service. He served as a Community First Responder and Trainer, selflessly helping others and consistently placing the welfare of the community above his own.
In 2018, Martin began to support his local community. His vision was simple but powerful: to give back to the community through high-quality first aid provision, training, and support — always delivered on a not-for-profit basis and always with integrity at its core.
In October 2022, Martin suffered a sudden and unexpected cardiac arrest. Despite best efforts, he sadly passed away. His loss was felt deeply by many — colleagues, friends, and the communities he had dedicated his life to serving.
Following Martin’s passing, those close to him continued his work with one clear aim: to ensure his legacy lived on and that the values he stood for — professionalism, compassion, and accountability — remained at the heart of everything we do.
With what Martin doing evolved, it became clear that the best way to protect Martin’s legacy and the communities we serve was to take a leap. We wanted governance, leadership structures, and clear standards around safeguarding, accountability, and operational practice. We decided to launch Richards Medical Community Trust to honour Martin properly by ensuring his original vision continues in a way that is transparent, compliant, and worthy of the trust placed in us.
Today, we remain firmly committed to the principles Martin founded the charity on: community service, not-for-profit delivery, high standards of care, and putting people first — always. We will always have Martins core beliefs at the forefront of everything we do.

We provide community-focused event medical and first aid cover, delivered by appropriately trained professionals operating strictly within their individual qualifications and competencies.
Our teams may provide first aid, patient assessment, basic life support, AED use, oxygen therapy, and other first-aid–level interventions depending on skillset and event risk profile.
We operate strictly on a donation basis and there are never any fixed fees or charges for our event cover. Donations support training, equipment, and the continued provision of community medical services. Including community awareness and AED installation.
All cover is risk-assessed in line with recognised event safety guidance, including the Purple Guide and we hold appropriate insurance cover for the services we provide, including public liability and treatment-related risks, with cover aligned to our defined scope of practice.
Whether it's a small indoor event with basic requirements or a large outdoor event requiring multiple vehicles, we are able to support you.
All services are delivered by trained volunteers under formal governance, safeguarding policies, and clear clinical boundaries.
We deliver accessible first aid training for individuals, groups, and organisations, tailored to community and workplace needs.
Courses include Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), First Aid at Work (FAW), Paediatric First Aid, and community awareness sessions. Training is delivered by qualified instructors and focuses on practical, confidence-building skills.
We deliver community health awareness sessions in accessible settings such as supermarkets, community centres, churches, and local venues.
Depending on qualifications and scope, this may include basic health checks such as blood pressure and blood glucose screening, alongside health education, signposting, and general wellbeing advice.
These sessions are intended to raise awareness and encourage early engagement with appropriate health services, not to provide diagnosis or ongoing treatment.
All activity is delivered by appropriately trained personnel, within defined competencies, and supported by clear policies, consent processes, and safeguarding arrangements.
We support communities and organisations with the placement, awareness, and basic upkeep of public access defibrillators (AEDs).
This may include advice on suitable locations, registration guidance, awareness sessions on AED use, and signposting around routine checks and readiness, helping improve community response to cardiac emergencies.
